Last year my husband and I took Uniworlds 9-day Paris and Normandy river cruise along the Seine. The highlight of our trip was the visit to the beaches of Normandy, where the U.S. forces landed on D-Day. On board the ship and at the site we met people who had family members that had fought in World War II, Vietnam and Desert Storm. For them in particular, it was extremely emotional to see, but I think all the passengers were moved by this visitespecially the American cemetery at Colleville, with rows and rows of white crosses and Stars of David marking nearly 10,000 graves.
Our cruise ship was the
River Baroness, which only carries 128 passengers. The small size meant that we got to know other passengers and the crew extremely wellthe staff was so friendly and attentive. We appreciated covering a lot of ground and only having to unpack our suitcases one time!
